We’re excited to announce a new feature in Blueprint Portal – the ability to view and track your authorization requests in real time.

With this new feature, you can:

  • See a list of all your authorization requests
  • Check the status of each request (approved, pending, denied, etc.)
  • Click into individual requests for more detailed information

This enhancement gives you more transparency and control over your care, helping you stay informed and plan ahead. To access it, sign in to Blueprint Portal and go to the Authorizations page, under the Policy heading.

We’re committed to making your experience as seamless and stress-free as possible, and we hope this new tool makes it easier to manage your healthcare needs.

What’s an authorization?

Authorization, prior authorization, preauthorization, precertification … they all mean the same thing, but different organizations may use different terms.

An authorization gives your health insurance company a chance to review a medical test, procedure or medication before you get it to be sure it is the best option for you. Sometimes, new, really expensive tests or treatments might not be any better than cheaper ones that have been around for a long time and work well for most people. Other times, a newer or more expensive treatment might actually be the right choice for you.

When your insurance company looks at your authorization request, their doctors (called medical directors) review your medical history and the information your doctor sends. Usually, they can decide pretty quickly. But sometimes, they might need more information. Since all your doctors send claims to the insurance company, these medical directors can see if you’ve had other tests or treatments that might change what you need now. Ultimately, all the doctors want you to have the right care, in the right place at the right time.

Share your feedback on the authorization process in our Blueprint survey and you’ll be enetered in a chance to win a Bogg bag filled with fun summer goodies. Then stick around to join our member panel and read all the great suggestions submitted for de-stressing.
